Was a pleasure taking part of the Green Pioneers Workshop: Leading the Green and Digital Transition at the European Parliament hosted by Maria Da Graรงa Carvalho last night.

We all agree that we need to help startups innovate and grow to build a thriving society. Europe has the chance to lead the green transition. We need to raise the awareness on investing in gender diverse teams and impact – there is a clear correlation between companies founded by women and green innovation but there is a stigma around both. Gender lens and impact investing is not a charity. Data speaks loud and clear, diverse teams bring higher returns. When it comes to investing in impact, I’d like to ask: Do you want a sustainable or an unsustainable portfolio?

When looking at the deal flow we receive at The Better Fund we see that over 70% of it is in impact. Jara Pascual also brought out that research and data show the same. If green innovation is largely worked on by women and yet only 1-2% of capital is invested in female founded teams, how are we possibly going to make it in the long run?

We need the backing of Europe as well as private investors on this. As Ursula von der Leyen said: The world needs ourย leadershipย more than ever. To keep engaging with the world as aย responsibleย power. To be a force forย peaceย and for positiveย change.

We can bridge this gap together with the help of European Commission European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) European Investment Fund (EIF) and fulfil Europe’s motto of “United in diversity”

Grateful to have been able to participate and hear so many insightful points from all parties. Also, my first visit to the European Parliament. Smells of freedom here, let’s keep building.
